Two different pair of conures in one cage
Can I keep 1 breeding pair of green cheek conure and 1 breeding pair of Sun conure in same cage ?
Hi Prince,
This is definitely not a good idea. Even if they were all the same species, you should only have one pair in a cage for breeding. Breeding birds get very territorial, and will attack and even kill other parrots in the same cage. Two pairs would be more interested in getting rid of the other pair than actually breeding. Breeding birds need a lot of privacy and some pairs will not breed if there are other pairs even in the same room. With some pairs, a visual barrier will work, and some pairs don’t seem to mind as long as the other cages are not too close to theirs. If a pair feels threatened by another pair or other birds nearby, they will not lay eggs, or if they already have eggs, they will abandon or destroy them. The same goes with chicks if they have chicks. Breeding pairs can be very sensitive so my advice is have their cages as far apart as possible and if they won’t breed, try a visual barrier or move one pair to another room.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
