Update

Hi! This isn’t really a question so you don’t have to answer but I am just letting you know that I was only planning to keep one chick I think I forgot to mention that and luckily the male has settled down a lot and he and the female are taking turns again so I’m going to take your advice and give them space and I will look into getting a different cage for them. Thank you so much!

Answer:

Hi!

I’m glad he is behaving again! You did mention only keeping one, but then you said you didn’t want to “get rid” of the chicks. You were understandably stressed. It is very distressing for an owner when a bird suddenly changes their personality! Once you understand the reasons, it’s easier to understand the behavior change. In a few days, you can try handling one chick at a time if the parents remain calm, but this time try to avoid talking to the male or making eye contact. I think his main problem was the previous bond with you. He also doesn’t understand why he feels the urge to protect his mate and his chicks and you. If you can take yourself out of the triangle, maybe you can work with the chicks and decide which one to keep!

Thanks for the update,

Brenda
