What’s wrong with my bird?

My bird lays an egg once every 1 or 2 weeks and does not sit on them. Why?

Answer:

Hi Rae,

I’m not sure what species of bird you have or if this is just a single bird? If so, the bird doesn’t need to sit on the egg, but you do need to try to discourage the egg laying. If you have a breeding pair, there can be a lot of reasons for this. It doesn’t really sounds like the bird is focusing on breeding or raising chicks. Most birds will lay a clutch of eggs depending on the species. If your do have a breeding pair, they need to be on a nutritionally balanced diet, they need the right type of nest or breeding box and they need privacy. If you can provide more information I can try to be of more help. We did just have 2 webinars on breeding and hormonal behavior that you might want to check out if this is just a single hen laying with no mate.
