White belly caique not going in the nesting box.

My white belly caique is not going in the nest box they’re a bonded pair with doing all the action that a pair does like grooming and feeding wad other.

Answer:

Hi,

It takes a lot of patience to breed birds. They do things on their own time. Many will take their time when it comes to exploring a nest box. Make sure the box is as high as possible and ideally attached to the outside of the cage. Of course it needs to be the right size with a large enough hole. Both birds need to be old enough to breed – mating can happen years before they are ready to actually breed. Caiques should be 3-5 years old. The breeding cage should be in a private area. If you are around watching them too much, they won’t settle down to breed. They need a nutritionally balanced diet, fresh greens, veggies and now while getting them into breeding condition, an egg food. Either a dry commercial egg food or cook eggs with the shell washed, crushed and cooked with the egg. Some birds never breed even if you do everything right. But I think you just need to be patient, give them privacy, and wait to see what they do.
