why my bird poop is black?

hi its rose again im sorry if im being annoying asking another question the last question i asked you helped me a lot my bird is doing well but i have noticed his poop colour has changed its black and if your wondering what he ate he ate a lot of pomegranate this morning and evening was it because of the fruit? or something else?

Answer:

Hi Rose,

You are always welcome to ask questions! 🙂

It’s hard to say about the droppings. Black dropping can be due to bleeding high in the digestive tract. When feeding extra foods like fruits & veggies, generally one bite of anything is plenty. Birds are small and eating a lot of something can be harmful. With pomegranate, I wouldn’t give more than one or two of the round berries. That’s not to say it has made him sick, but if his droppings have not improved by the morning, you should probably contact an Avian Vet to have him checked out. Hopefully all is well with him. If he is acting well, eating well and otherwise normal, it might just be caused by the fruit.

Thanks for the update,

Brenda
