Will she hate me

Hello, Verde has a vet appointment that is rather far to get to so we had to pack her up very quickly, she flew out of the box that she came in, that’s what we were trying to put her in, your last answer for the towel thing was very helpful. I grabbed her with the towel as gently as I could. I forgot to mention she’s stepping up on to my hand but only when there’s a hoodie wrapped around it, so at first, I tried to step up but once she broke out of the cage she was like nope I want to enjoy my freedom, she was just sitting on top of the cage getting puffy with her feathers. My father told me that I should hold her with the towel and I did and she flew but couldn’t escape the box. My question was I was accidentally talking through all of this without realizing it, and singing her a lullaby after she was in the box will she lose trust in me now? Or associate my voice with negative things? if so what can I do after her appointment to regain trust or build it back up

Answer:

Hi Morgan,

I think Verde should be just fine. It sounds like quite the adventure getting her contained, but it also sounds like she took everything in stride. She didn’t panic which is very good! She will probably be on the quiet side this afternoon and maybe tomorrow. Or she might just bounce back and be herself. Verde sounds like she is a confident little bird which is great, but also what has made her a bit of a challenge for you. I feel like y’all are working things out and she is going to be a really great companion for you. It’s OK that you were talking to her and reassuring her. She will still associate things more with the towel and box than with you – you were trying to help her in her mind.

Thanks for the update!

Brenda
