Window air conditioner

I have a small room with a window air conditioner. My cage is right next to the window and I do keep the air away from him. My concern is that the window air conditioner makes noise while is on. Is it ok to keep it on at nights or should I keep it off while my cockatiel sleeps?

Answer:

Hi Angela,

Keeping your bird out of a draft is the most important thing. I’m not sure about the noise. If your bird does not seem to be bothered by it, then it should be fine. There is no reason why it would be worse at night than during the day. If it is a really loud unit and your bird changes his behavior when it comes on – like excessive head shaking, pacing, running to the bottom of the cage or vocalizing loudly – then you probably need to find another place in the room for the cage and of course make sure it is also draft free.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
