Young birds v Adults

What is the age of a young bird? does it depend on the kind of bird and their life span?

Answer:

Hi Dawn,

Yes, the species will determine to what age the bird is still classified as “young”. A young bird can be a chick, an immature or sub-adult bird, or a sexually mature bird. Like people, age-related conditions like arthritis can happen at different ages for different birds. In general, a bird may be considered a senior once he or she reaches half of their expected life span.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
