Sitting in food disb

My cockiteal is 4 or 5 yrs old and he sits in his food dish I thought maybe he is nesting I thought it’s cute but he is doing it more and more should I be concerned

Answer:

Hi Michelle,

Since he is a male, this isn’t bad for him. With a female, it might cause her to start laying eggs. Mainly with a male you have his behavior to be concerned with. He may get aggressive and start protecting his dish like a nest. If he does this, buy him a couple of smaller food cups that he can’t fit in. Also if he starts pooping in it, get him new dishes. Otherwise, he may just do this seasonally. I had a male who nested in his cage corner a couple times a year, but he was fine the rest of the time.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
