Conure picking up the food

Hello, I’ve been using your nutriberries for years with my two birdies. Both absolutely love the food, and it’s great for nutrition, but my conure often picked up the balls and drops them to the bottom of her cage, anything we can do to help that?

Answer:

Hi Brayden,

It helps to understand wild parrot behavior. In the wild, if food is abundant, the birds will choose select bits from a food and drop the rest. This does have a purpose as it feeds some ground dwelling animals as well as helps reseed the environment. Of course for us it is just annoying and wasteful. The best way to address this is to offer less food at a time and give him more once he has eaten what you give him. You can give him the dropped food as long as it has not become soiled with feces.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
