Lovebirds really need to be hand fed to be a good pet. There can be exceptions and you should certainly try to tame him, but you have your work cut out for you. The most important thing to keep in mind is that nothing is going to happen right away. You will need to spend a lot of time with him, talking to him and offering treats. Don’t try to grab him or get him on your hand right now – he needs to trust you first. You will have an even harder time taming him if his wings are not clipped. If he can keep flying away from you, it’s hard to make any progress. Hopefully they trimmed the wings where you bought him, but those feathers will grow back and need to be clipped again.
