I have a pair of cocktail. Male does not mate in spite of mating sounds. It seems that it is going to mate but not. Female come close to it and made a position to b mated but i havent see it .plz guide
Hi Irfan,
Your birds may be too young. The male needs to be a minimum of 18 months old and the female should be at least 2 years old. In captivity, they will become mature at a younger age, but they are not fully developed and they aren’t mentally mature enough. If you let them breed when they are too young, they are more likely to make mistakes or develop bad breeding habits that will prevent them from ever being good breeders. If this pair is old enough, then just be patient and give them time. It takes time for them to form a bond and then time for them to actually start mating. Breeding birds need a lot of privacy so if you are spending a lot of time watching them, then you could be making them nervous. It takes a lot of patience to breed birds, so just give them time and privacy and they should figure it out soon.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
