Finch sitting but no eggs

I have a pair of female finches. One laid two eggs in their seed bowl (no nests are provided so as not to promote egg laying). I have removed the eggs but she still sits in the seed dish (fresh seeds provided). Is there anything I should do?

Answer:

Hi Annabel,

I would purchase a few smaller seed cups that she can’t fit in. You should be able to find some that hook or clip to the cage bars. You can try relocating the dish she is in, but I find that it’s best just to replace a cup with smaller ones. If they don’t have any toys, they do enjoy the small, colorful plastic toys that have bells or mirrors.  As long as they don’t get obsessed with a mirror, it is OK for them to have one. They also enjoy swings.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
