Cage versus open

What is safer for night frights? Open space like a room or a cage? I had an intruder in my house and so my birds, a cockatiel and a budgie, were flying around in the house in the office room they sleep in, in the dark, and a night light is not enough there. I was worried they would hurt themselves. I turned the light on quickly enough, but tonight I put them in their cages which they are no longer used to (one is a new cage), but I want to know if a larger known space is safer than a smaller known space or wherever there is more light is safer? In the cages, lizards and mice can get in and insects whereas it is easier for the birds to flee from those in the room

Answer:

Hi Laila,

It is generally best for birds to be in their cages at night. A night light is also good. As for the pests, try to find where they get in to keep them away. Mice will kill a small bird, and their urine is toxic to birds.
