Parakeet

How long can you keep your parakeet in a cage on any given day? Our parakeet is about a 1 year and 3 months old.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:

Hi Gitesh,

It depends on whether the bird is tame and how large the cage is. If it is a large cage with plenty of toys, then the bird will play and exercise in his cage if he isn’t out. If he is tame, you should try to spend time with him at least once a day. He should only be out of the cage when he can be supervised. Letting a bird come and go at will is not a good idea because of household hazards. So basically make sure he is happy in his cage and has toys to keep him busy and if you miss a day getting him out, it’s OK. Many people go on vacation and have someone come in to feed the bird but not handle it, so in that case a bird might spend a couple weeks or longer in the cage. There is no set standard, just give him attention when you can.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
