Beak health

what would you recommed for overall beak health and strength in mid size birds such as greys or mini macaws during the younger years as far as diet or physical item in cage?

Answer:

Hi Adam,

As long as the bird is on a nutritionally balanced diet, he should not need anything special for beak health. A mineral block is always a good idea and most birds will use one when they feel the need. As for exercise, toys made from a variety of materials like natural woods, acrylic, bone, leather and rope will provide chewing exercise. Keep leather and rope short so as not to entangle the bird. Nuts in the shell are also good. Also provide perches made from natural hard woods in different thickness.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
