Budgies and doves

Hi there can I put dove eggs in my male budgies nest will he lay on them just to let them hatch ? If not what can I do to let the dove eggs hatch

Answer:

Hi Lousha,

This is not going to work, unfortunately. Even if he hatched the eggs, he would have no way to feed them. He probably wouldn’t sit on them anyway since they are considerably larger than budgie eggs. I’m not sure why your male has a nest, but unless he has a mate and they are breeding now, he doesn’t need a nest. Nests are only needed for breeding – not for sleeping.

I would leave the eggs with the doves and give them the chance to learn. Doves are usually great parents, so just let them figure out what to do.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
