chest bump

Hello, i was recently given a Hispanolian parrot as a gift by a family member, i would like to find out why she came without feathers also why she has a medium size bump on her chest.

Regarding the taming part she bites and does not want to be touched. I’m trying to be slow and patient.

Answer:

Hi Angie,

Hispanolian Amazons are not very common in captivity or in the wild – are you sure this is what she is? It sounds like she is plucking her own feathers. This is not good for her and she needs to be seen by an avian vet to try to determine the cause. There are many reasons why a parrot will pluck and sometimes there is more than one reason. Regarding the bump, this may just be the crop which is visible due to the missing feathers. Again, an Avian Vet should see her and can tell you if there is an issue.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
