Cockatiel nutrition

Hi there, We’ve got a 1 year old Male cockatiel who seems to intake far too much water. Whenever he poops its just like flooding his cage. is there a way to stop this behavior?

Answer:

Hi Darren,

A lot of fresh foods, especially fruits, can cause polyuria – excess urine in the droppings. But otherwise, the best thing to do is to take him to an Avian Vet. There are many causes for this condition, which can range from poor nutrition to diabetes to an infection of some type. Treatment success hinges on a quick diagnosis, so it’s best to have him seen as soon as possible.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
