Cockatoo

My bird has laid 5 eggs since November one every two three weeks she’s on her own is this normal she breaks them after a day or two is this bad for her

Answer:

Hi Danny,

It is not good for her to keep laying eggs If this continues, you need to take her to an Avian Vet for hormone treatments You can make some changes to discourage egg laying. When you handle her, you need to limit all petting to her head and neck. If you cuddle her or pet her on the body, this sends her the message that you are her mate, and it triggers her hormones, which makes her lay eggs. Do not give her anything to shred like paper or cardboard. Never give her a nest. Limit her light to 8-10 hours daily, by covering her cage early each evening. If you offer fresh foods, stop these for a couple of weeks, and then only offer them a few times a week. When she is out of the cage, keep her out of cozy places. If this still doesn’t stop her from laying eggs, then it’s best to take her to an Avian Vet.
