Cocktail female bird

Hi
I have a female cocktail bird since a year I’m somehow always available in the house and she is so attached to me. No one else in the house
Now i will be working and most probably I will leave her long hours alone. Should I get her a companion?
As sometimes when I spend a day out away from her she seems depressed or aggressive and scream when I open the door

Answer:

Hi Hadil,

If you want the bird to remain tame, then do not get another bird – at least not to put in the same cage. When two birds share a cage, even if they are the same sex, they will almost always bond and no longer want to interact with people. If you get another tame bird in another cage, it might help some, but more likely you will just have 2 birds screaming for attention. It is better to make sure she has plenty of toys to interact with, and maybe teach her some foraging exercises to keep her busy. You can also leave some music or TV on so the house won’t be too quiet. If she screams when you get home, do not go to her until she is quiet, otherwise you are just teaching her to scream. Birds can adjust to new schedule. Just  give her time and do not reward unwanted behavior like screaming..
