Green Cheek Conure

Hi, my conure has trouble eating. He does not eat as much as he’s supposed to and I’ve tried switching from his seeds diet to pellets. He does eat his pellets but rarely. I want to find food for him that he would enjoy and that would help him get better.

Answer:

Hi Shiza,

If a bird isn’t eating well, this can be an indication of illness. You might want to take him to an Avian Vet.

As to the diet, we make foraging diets that are formulated the same as pellets, but they are not ground up. Our Nutri-Berries, Avi-Cakes and Pellet-Berries contain fresh, hulled seeds with other nutrients to provide a nutritionally balanced diet as well as providing foraging exercise. Pellets are made from the same ingredients, but they are all ground up and made into a pellet. The problem with loose seeds is they are usually not fresh enough to retain their nutrients and any added vitamins are lost when the bird hulls the seeds. Wild parrots eat a variety of foods, so pellets can get very boring for a bird if that’s all you offer. Your can feed any of our foraging diets alone or combined with pellets and your bird will be getting complete nutrition. I’ll post a link to our feeding guide with more information:
