Leaving parrot alone for two days

So for Christmas I’m planning on spending with my dad which I haven’t done in ten years I have a Amazon parrot and one budgie I’m planning on putting them in the living room so they can chat have the cirtons open a little bit so they can see outside however we don’t have many people to come in and check on them would they be ok for a few days if I put two bowls of water and food to ensure they will be ok

Answer:

Hi,

I would not recommend this at all. Birds have been known to get into trouble when left along just overnight. Moving them from where they normally are will be stressful for them to begin with. Birds also act differently when they owners are away. They could spill or soil the water or food and be sick or in the case of the budge, dead before you get back. Water supports bacterial growth even without being soiled and should be changed daily. The best thing is to find someone who can come in at least once a day – twice is better – to check on them and give them fresh water and more food. You also need to leave a light on for them and heat or AC depending on the outside temperature. Having a light on 24 hours isn’t good, so it’s best to have someone come in the morning and turn on the lights and then turn them off in the evening. There are pet sitting services that you may want to look into.
