Love birds hiding in nest box


i got a pair of peach face love birds they used to be in a cage without nesting box .
i got them for 3 days now in new cage with nesting box , and when i removed there cover this morning i saw they were sleeping inside they nesting box , also started hiding inside it when i get close to them , am not even sure if they are confirmed male and female they kinda behave and sound exactly the same .

Hi,

You should go ahead and remove the nest box. A nest box isn’t a bed. They only need a nest box if they are definitely male & female, over 2 years old, and are bonded as mates. And also only if you want to deal with breeding. If you can’t confirm all of these things, then they should not have a nest box until they meet these requirements. If you decide you do want to breed them, it’s best to have them DNA sexed by a Vet. And you need to know they are over 2 years old because they should not be set up for breeding if they aren’t old enough.
