my cockatiel breaks his new wing feathers

Hi, as i mentioned my cockatiel breaks his new wing feathers but he doesn’t pull his other feathers so it’s not a mental issue also he’s my first cockatiel and i can’t understand why.

Answer:

Hi Eylem,

Any type of feather destructive behavior can be physical, psychological or both. Chewing on the feathers can indicate a nutritional deficiency. He should be eating a nutritionally balanced diet like pellets or our foraging diets. You should also offer leafy greens, veggies and some fruit. If you are only feeding seeds, this is very likely why he is chewing on his feathers. If he is eating a balanced diet, then there may be a physical issue, so you should take him to an Avian Vet to have him checked out.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
