Sudden death
I had 3 Lovebirds, 3 Conures and 3 Cockatiels. The Lovebirds all died, one Conure and 1 Cockateil. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
I’m very sorry for your loss! If all of these birds died at the same time, the most likely cause was an airborne toxin. Pretty much anything with a scent or fumes can be toxic to birds – candles, cleaning products, plug in air fresheners, cookware, even new carpet. Many appliances have a protective coating that burns off the first time you use it. We are even having a webinar on toxins next month and have had past webinars addressing toxins.
If these birds have been dying over a period of time, then you need to take your surviving birds to an Avian Vet to have them checked out and to discuss care. I can’t say if it is something you have done wrong because you didn’t provide any details. Some parrots can carry diseases that will not make them sick, but can infect and kill other birds that they share a home with. So testing for certain viruses would be a good idea unless you realize that an airborne toxin was the cause.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
Brenda
