Swallowing her feathers

Verde is in fact eating her feathers when the molt our and I was wondering if that’s something I should worry about?

Answer:

Hi Morgan,

I would still be surprised if she is swallowing any of it. She may chew them up, but watch her carefully – in order to swallow pieces, she has to push them to the back of her throat with her tongue. Some birds have been known to pull their own feathers and eat the blood from the shaft. This seems to be with birds who have a very poor diet. Since she just had a vet check, you can call the Vet and ask. She could just be very bored. You may as well start letting her out of the cage even though she can fly. She can’t stay in the cage forever and by now she is probably feeling very cage bound. If you are concerned about her flying though the house or into a window, you will need to move her cage into a bedroom for her safety and so she can get out for some exercise.

Thanks for the update,

Brenda
