Turkey Tail Mushroom

Is turkey tail mushroom immune supplements safe for budgies?
I have an older budgie that possibly has kidney/liver disease and fatty lipomas. The vet suggested moving her to a diet of nutri berries. What else can I give her to ease her discomfort and speed recovery?

Answer:

Hi Tayler,

I would not recommend using that supplement since it is not intended for birds.

We do have a senior bird product that would be better for your budgie – Senior Bird Nutri-Berries. These contain supplements that are safe and formulated for pet birds. They still contain some whole seed which will be appealing to your budgie. You might need to crumble the berries at first to get her used to eating them. Eventually this should be her main diet, only supplemented with fresh greens, fruits and veggies. The Senior Nutri-Berries as well as the regular Nutri-Berries are formulated to provide complete nutrition. But again, she will benefit more from the Senior formula. She may waste some of them at first, but once you can tell she is eating them well, you can reduce how many you give her at a time. Your goal is for her to eat all of each berry. Depending on her activity level and metabolism, she will eventually eat anywhere from 6-12 berries each day.  The link below will provide you with the information about the ingredients and benefits as well as how to order. You can also contact our customer service to find out if your local pet or bird shop carries these.
