Zebra finches

The male was always chasing and pecking the female.i thought it would be kinda courtship.my female then laid eggs before 3 days.but still the male is attacking whenever he sees her.what should I do?will I get those eggs hatched?I worried!!

Answer:

Hi Hiruthie,

If the male is this aggressive, then this is not a good situation for the female. Not all birds are compatible and not all birds will be good breeders. If you haven’t seen them mating, then the eggs will not be fertile anyway. The female can’t do this by herself, but the male is going to end up killing her if he doesn’t settle down. You probably need to remove him, and discard the nest and eggs. Birds do not need a nest unless they are breeding. And a pair should not have a nest unless they are bonded and get along. If he doesn’t stop attacking her, you must remove him. And if you leave her alone with a nest and eggs, she will not want to leave the eggs to eat, so this is why you need to remove it and discard the eggs. It doesn’t sound like the pair was ever bonded anyway, so the eggs are no good. I would let her rest for a while, and then if you still want to breed, find a new male and see if they get along better. Again, do not give them a nest until they are bonded and are mating. Also, you can only have one pair in a cage for breeding. If there are other birds in the cage, then this is why the male is attacking the female. In that case, take out all other birds and the male will probably stop the attacks.
