Sulphur crested Cockatoo 35 years old


hello,, I have a sulpher crested which i have had since he was hatched, he 35 , just in the last 2 week he has really slowed down on his eating,, he does a little but not much, he sits now back in his cage when he can run around, his dropping are fine , he drinking , he not picking his feathers out,,,Question is,, 1:they are doing construction work next door, which he might be stressed. 2: i been sprinkling vitamin and mineral on his dinner at night,could that do it..Need a bit of advise,, thanks

Hi Michael,

At his age, a Vet check would be a good idea if he hasn’t been to the vet lately. The construction could be bothering him – cockatoos are very sensitive. Regarding the supplement, if he is on a nutritionally complete diet like pellets or our foraging diets, he does not need an additional supplement. It is possible to overdose a bird on certain vitamins. Birds will try to hide any signs of illness so since you have noticed this behavior change, as I said it might be time for a Vet check.
