We have an eclectus that ate too much chia seeds and the bottoms of the feathers turned black. He is turning green slowly, and acts normal.
We have a couple disabled eclectus with spinal problems and just end up with arthritic problems or chewing on their foot, all kinds
When is it ok to take out an infertle egg? Usually we wait until it looks or smells, but we are just concerned with when it is not a good idea when to let them continue to have it.
Using CBD for pain on skin, or orally.
Does cornstarch expire for using it to stop bleeding?

Hi Mary,
Anytime you have a change in feather condition, it will not change until the cause has been addressed and until the bird molts every affected feather. So it sounds like you have him straightened out as as far as nutrition since he has some new, green feathers. As new feathers come in, they should also be nice and green. If not, then you would want to take him to an Avian Vet to determine any internal issues.
Spinal issues with birds can be very debilitating. They probably chew on the feet due to nerve pain or even numbness. You might want to consider trying them on our Senior Bird Nutri-Berries. These can be fed at any life stages, but have added supplements and nutrients that particularly address age related issues such as arthritis. These have been carefully formulated by Veterinarians and Nutritionists to be balanced and offer the most benefit to the bird. And course you should also consult with your Avian Vet about any medications that might help with pain or other related problems. If the foot chewing is bad, you can collar the birds, but this would be very hard for a crippled bird. There are some soft collars that might work. Again, your Vet would need to help you.
For an infertile egg, if this is a single bird, you can take the eggs at any time. If the bird is sitting on them, she will usually lose interest and abandon them, at least by the end of the normal incubation period. If she isn’t sitting on them and doesn’t show interest, throw the egg or eggs away. If this is a breeding pair, leave all eggs until the pair abandons them or discards them. If the bird is laying over and over, you need to take steps to stop her, and in some cases she might need a hormone shot or implant.
There have been no studies yet on using CBD oil with pets. Dr. Tully did mention in a past webinar that they are planning a study, soon. If you use something like this, please first watch our webinar on Alternative Medicine. Dr. Barron explains how much fraud goes on in this highly unregulated industry and how to find a reliable source for alternative medicines. I’ll post the link below.
Cornstarch can be expired if you are just using it for an emergency aid. We are actually having a webinar on emergency first aid and how to put together a first aid kit for your birds, on November 20.
