Let out of cage?

Is it OK to let my new budgie out of its cage before he has been tamed?

Answer:

Hi Jim,

It is a good idea to have your new bird’s wings trimmed by a professional before you let it out or try to tame it. This is just like getting a hair cut and the cut feathers will eventually molt out and be replaced with new feathers. If you let him out and he can fly, he might hurt himself. Birds will often panic when let out in a new environment and it can be hard to get him back in his cage.

We have some great articles that can help you with taming and training. On this page you will find links to articles about taming him, training him, proper cage and environment, diet and more.
