Dr. Ken Harkewicz earned his Veterinary Medicine Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. After graduation, Dr. Harkewicz completed a 20-month post-doctorate externship in wildlife medicine in Queensland, Australia working with small marsupials, reptiles and amphibians. Dr. Harkewicz has worked as an exotic animal veterinarian in the Bay Area since 1985 and has been with Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital since 1997. Dr. Harkewicz is a Past-President (2011-2012) of the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians and currently serves as a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network on reptile and amphibian care. Dr. Harkewicz lectures on reptiles and amphibians at both tech and pre-vet schools and University of California (UC), Berkeley and UC Davis herptile clubs, as well as at local reptile and amphibian associations. He also hosts externs from the Western University School of Veterinary Medicine in California.
