Dr. Ken Harkewicz earned his Veterinary Medicine Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. After graduation, Dr. Harkewicz completed a 20-month post-doctorate externship in wildlife medicine in Queensland, Australia working with small marsupials, reptiles, and amphibians. Dr. Harkewicz then worked as an exotic animal veterinarian in the Bay Area beginning in 1985 and he was a longtime associate of Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital (c. 1997). Dr. Harkewicz was a Past-President of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (2011-2012) and he also served as a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network on reptile and amphibian care. Dr. Harkewicz lectured on reptiles and amphibians for veterinary technology, pre-veterinary, and veterinary medical students at the University of California (UC) Berkeley and UC Davis, as well as at local reptile and amphibian associations. Ken also hosted externs from the Western University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Harkewicz died suddenly in late August 2021.
