Dr. Lauren Thielen attended Texas A&M University (TAMU) College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Kaytee Avian and Special Species Award for her interest in and contribution to avian research and medicine. Lauren then completed a 1-year exotic animal medicine internship at Broward Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital in Florida. She is currently in a 2-year avian residency at the Veterinary Center for Birds & Exotics in Bedford Hills, New York, where is working towards her life-long goal of becoming a board certified avian specialist. Lauren also serves as Marketing Chair for the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. Before her time at TAMU, Dr. Thielen worked as a veterinary technician for 5 years during which time she participated in wildlife rehabilitation, one of her many passions. Her other exotic animal experiences include working at the animal health department of the Columbus Zoo and conducting field research on macaws in the heart of the Amazon rainforest at the Tambopata Research Center in Peru.
