Shredded printer paper

I work in an office that shreds paper that’s been printed on daily. Is it safe to use this on the non covered bottom of my birds cage? Additionally I wanted to add dried lavender to the bottom of the cage as well. My research shows lavender is okay, but I wanted to be sure.
